16 Super Fun Spring Activities For Preschoolers

Spring is here and so is the warm sun! It’s finally time to get back outside with these fun and exciting spring activities for preschoolers.

From learning activities to exploring through sensory fun, these spring activities are a great way for your toddlers and preschoolers to be hands on and learn through play.

If you’re looking for some fun ways to keep your school-aged kids entertained this spring, you’ll find plenty for them to explore with this list of screen free spring activities for kids.

We all know that with spring also comes lots of rain. But the good news is that these spring activities can all be done either indoors or outdoors!

When you’re introducing activities to your preschoolers, you want to make sure they will be play based and hands on activities.

Kids are curious (to say the least) and learn through play. More importantly, their skills (like their fine motor skills) get activated the more hands on they are.

This list of spring activities includes sensory activities, exploring nature, craft ideas, and more!

Spring Activities For Preschoolers

1. Spring sensory bags

The best part of sensory bags is you can use whatever you have lying around your house and they’re an easy cleanup as long as you prepare the bag properly.

When making a spring sensory bag, you’ll want to use ziploc bags that have the double seal instead of the zipper. I like to secure all sides of the ziploc bag with clear packing tape as well.

Some of our favorite materials to use as the base of our sensory bags are

Hair gel
Aloe Vera
Water
Shaving cream

Pour in your base and add any small materials you have lying around. From toy animals in shaving cream to glitter in hair gel. There are endless sensory bags to create.

2. Spring sensory bins

Just like sensory bags, but in a bin! There are so many ways to create fun spring sensory bins with things indoors and outdoors.

Simply get a small, rectangular bin, fill it about halfway with water, and add some items your preschoolers can explore!

Some of our favorites to add to our water bins are flowers or small rocks that we picked outside.

3. Spring finger painting

Grab the blues, pinks, yellows, and greens and let your preschoolers create some fun spring art!

My daughters love when I start off their artwork for them and they get to add the colors to complete it.

4. Spelling words with sprinkles

Okay so I guess this is technically another spring sensory bin, but an exciting and edible version!

For this spring activity you’re going to want to make sure you have a bin long enough to fit your preschoolers name. If you don’t have a bin, you can do this on any flat surface.

Pour out some fun rainbow sprinkles and let your preschooler practice spelling their name in the sprinkles with their finger!

5. Spring letter recognition

My daughters LOVE this activity since it includes one of their favorite activities, playdough.

If you’re looking for fun spring activities that are also educational, this is a great activity to try out.

First, have your preschooler gather up a small container of pebbles or you can use dried white beans.

Then, you’re going to roll out a ball of brown playdough into a muddy puddle shape.

Place a letter in front of your preschooler and have them use the rocks to form the matching letter into their muddy puddle playdough.

Keep giving them a new letter to make in a random order until they’ve completed the alphabet.

6. Shaving cream rainbow

When spring comes so do the rain and rainbows! This spring activity is a great way to get your preschooler interested in nature while digging around through shaving cream!

Not only is this spring activity fun and educational, but it’s ANOTHER sensory activity that can be done in a bag or bin!

This is a super easy activity that only requires a cookie sheet or tray, shaving cream, and some sort of coloring like food dye or paint.

Fill a tray or cookie sheet with shaving cream
Gather food dye or paint in all colors of the rainbow
Place a few drops of each color dye in different areas on top of the shaving cream
Give your preschoolers some wood sticks, spoons, or gloves for their hands and let them create some rainbows

7. Crab walking

Crab walking, but make it fun. To bring this spring activity to life, you’ll want to set out hula hoops for your preschooler to crab walk over or create a tunnel with bedsheets for them to crab walk under.

8. Outdoor obstacle course

When spring comes back around, it’s time to bring any and every possible activity outdoors.

Grab some hula hoops to hop through, create a small balance beam with materials from your garage, and use pool noodles to jump over.

You want to get creative with this spring activity and get your preschoolers moving!

9. Flower painting

If there’s 1 thing you can find anywhere in the Spring, it’s flowers. Have your preschoolers pick their favorite flowers and bring them home to do some spring activities.

My toddlers favorite flower activities are painting all of the petals and dipping flowers into paint to press onto paper.

10. Spring rain clouds

These shaving cream rain clouds by One Little Project are such a fun spring activity and had my preschoolers occupied all day!

11. Tissue paper ball crafts

Growing up I LOVED making tissue paper crafts so of course I had to introduce it to my kids.

Grab a bunch of tissue paper in lots of spring colors and rip them into small pieces. Once you have your small pieces of paper, scrunch them up into little clusters. This is actually my toddlers favorite part, because what’s more fun than ripping paper?

With your tissue paper balls you can glue them onto any printed coloring pages. We like to use them to add color to a butterflies wings, or fill in a caterpillars body.

12. Flower ice

This is such a cute and fun spring activity because it lets your preschooler collect and freeze real flowers!

Gather your ice cube trays or muffin trays and cut the stems off of your preschoolers chosen flowers. Fill the tray with water and let them freeze!

Once your flowers have frozen, let your preschooler decide how to free them from the ice.

Some options are:

Place the ice in a bowl of warm water & watch it melt
Use a small scooper or dropper to slowly melt the ice with warm water
Try to break the ice with a spoon

13. Create a bouquet

Using real flowers, create a real bouquet of flowers. This spring activity allows your preschooler to explore through touch, sight and smell. They’ll get to learn about the differences between flowers and find their favorite ones.

14. Have a picnic

Make a quick lunch, grab your favorite snacks and enjoy the weather! A picnic doesn’t have to be fancy or include a large basket filled with food your preschooler probably won’t finish.

Grab a blanket, pack a bag, and either have your picnic in your backyard or your preschoolers favorite park.

15. Rainy day spring activities

With spring comes rain..lots and lots of rain.

16. Visit a local farmers market

Preschoolers love farmers markets just as much as we do. They can speak to local farmers about where their food comes from, how it’s made, and get to pick the food they bring home.
